Legendary API Sound in a Compact, Cost-effective Package!
API’s The Box small-format recording/mixing console is the ideal choice for your project studio if you record a few channels at a time but want the warmth and punch that a large-format API console delivers. Sporting the same circuitry and performance as API’s esteemed Vision, Legacy Plus, and 1608 boards, the Box delivers the legendary API “big console sound” in a smaller, more affordable package. The Box gives you four input channels, full center section control, and 16 summing channels, assignable classic API compressors, and more.
Analog warmth – optimized for the digital era
Designed for professional project studios and production facilities, The Box gives you that classic API analog quality at a realistic price. Optimized for the digital era, The Box delivers all the functionality you need, including mic preamps, input signal processing, a high-quality mix bus, cue sends with talk-back, monitor control, and much more, while eliminating the redundant capacities of larger boards. You get the legendary all-discrete API sound in a compact, cost-effective package.
Record and mix in style
For recording, The Box gives you four input channels. Channels 1 and 2 are equipped with preamp, filter, 550A EQ, insert, assignable compression, and output routing. Channels 3 and 4 deliver the same features, but for additional flexibility, each has a 500 Series slot in place of the on-board EQ. When it’s time to mix, The Box gives you 16 dedicated summing input channels, as well as the four input channels, for a total of 20 channels. All channels, input and summing, have a fader, mute, pan pot, program bus assignment, insert, solo, solo safe, and aux/cue sends. Unity-gain buttons on the summing channels let you bypass the faders and deliver the signal straight to the pan pots – a very useful feature when you’re mixing DAW tracks that already have fader and mute automation.
The Box master section
The Box’s comprehensive master section gives you controls for program bus insert and external inputs, aux and cue masters, solo master, VU meters, talk-back, and a full-featured monitor section that supports two stereo speaker systems plus headphones. The master section also includes two API 527 compressors that are assignable to the input channels when you’re recording, and to the program bus when you’re mixing.
API – a tradition of high-quality audio
In 1968, Automated Processes Inc. began building quality consoles for broadcast applications. Soon, the company’s products found favor with recording studios, and a string of industry-leading advancements followed. API produced the 2520 amplifier, one of the most famous op-amps in the recording industry, and their consoles and products found homes in such iconic studio facilities as The Hit Factory, Record Plant, Ocean Way, and Sunset Sound, among others. In fact, there are over 700 classic API consoles produced with many of them still in use.
